Summer Camp for Ages 9-12

GSA's and VSC's Summer Theatre Camp will provide a diverse range of engaging activities to enrich your child's summer experience! Aside from the daily theater-related activities, campers will also get to experience the Slover Library and Chrysler Museum. Our Summer Theatre Camp offers more than just a place to spend summer days. It is a place for your child to learn and grow.

SHEL SILVERSTEIN: Poetry, Pictures, and Performance

SESSION 1: June 18 - June 29
Students in this camp will discover artistic and theatrical inspiration from the work and world of Shel Silverstein, best remembered for poetry collections such as "A Light in the Attic" and "Where the Sidewalk Ends."  On their own and in collaboration, students will create poems, drawings, scripts and scenes, learning from VSC and GSA artists in this fun and imaginative camp. The final performance will be a showcase of the Silverstein-inspired, student-created ideas.

Directors: Ryan Clemens, Jeni Schaefer
Time: Monday - Friday, 9AM - 1PM
Final Day: Friday, June 29, 9AM through the Final Presentation at 5:30PM. Final Presentation open to the public at the Wells Theatre.
Cost: $275 (includes camp tshirt)

Greek Mythology: Fates, Gods, and Legends

SESSION 3: July 9 - July 20
Students will explore Greek Myths through movement, music, and storytelling. Utilizing the myths themselves and modern texts (think the Percy Jackson movies), students will create an original performance that highlights the wonder and magic of the myths. The end will result in an original script and performance created by the students that showcases their two week journey of creativity and discovery.

Time: Monday - Friday, 9AM - 1PM
Final Presentation: Friday, July 20, 9AM through the Final Presentation at 5:30PM. Final Presentation open to the public at the Wells Theatre.

Grimm’s Fairytales: Fantasy, Magic, and Wonder

SESSION 5: July 23 - August 3
No Disney fairytale endings here! The Grimm’s Brothers tales are filled with hard lessons about life but mixed in with laughter, fantasy, and hope. During this two week workshop, students will read the Grimm’s versions of Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and Rumpelstiltskin. With a mixture of movement, acting, and music, students will recreate these stories and introduce the audience to a new way of seeing fairytales.
