Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye Virginia Stage Company Norfolk State Theatre

MARCH 6 - 24, 2019

Adapted from Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Toni Morrison's first novel, The Bluest Eye follows Pecola, a young girl in Ohio in the 1940s, who is pregnant at her father's hands. The play, both poetic and daringly funny - even as it breaks your heart - takes us through not only the whys of Pecola's story but also the hows. Character driven, with actors playing multiple roles, Pecola is taken in by a loving family. The two brilliant and kind sisters at the heart of it, Frieda and Claudia, look out for her and walk us through the exquisite storytelling. A story that looks at how the world might break us or give us the light to grow. .
