SESSION 1 | JUNE 19 - 30
BACKSPACE BY LINDSAY PRICE
9:00AM TO 3:30PM
Tuition: $410
We're bringing you a new kind of summer camp this year. Build up your skills as an actor in this new two week camp experience! We'll focus on the building blocks of acting and put them all to use to cast, rehearse, and perform Backspace by Lindsay Price. Backspace is the story of four young writers, and a typewriter.
Rising 5th - 8th grade students are welcome to join the cast of Backspace. No audition, no prior experience needed- we'll teach you everything you need to know to be stage ready! Reserve quickly, space is limited!
Families and friends of campers are welcome to attend the final presentation on Friday the 30th at 5:00pm!
ABOUT THE PLAY
In the world of Backspace, writing is a struggle, a battle, a war. Writers go off to the front lines to fight Ideas who resist at every turn. They stare at the Blank Page and must stand strong when she starts talking back. They look for anything and everything to move their writing forward. The front is littered with writers who have given up. Will our four young writers face the same fate? Every word is another word closer to Victory!

VSC SUMMER THEATRE CAMP (AGES 13 - 18)

This is the same summer camp experience you have come to know and love from the Virginia Stage Company!
For two weeks, campers will engage their imaginations through a collaborative theatrical experience. Our professional theater artists will lead fun-filled activities such as playwriting, character development, improvisation, movement, games, and more! Held at The Governor’s School for the Arts and the historic Wells Theatre, all camps create and present a unique production to perform for friends and family! Come make drama with us!
Families and friends of campers are welcome to attend the final presentation on Friday the 14th at 5:00pm!

SESSION 4 | JULY 31 - AUGUST 11
ALMOST, MAINE BY JOHN CARIANI
9:00AM TO 3:30PM

We're bringing you a new kind of summer camp this year. Build up your skills as an actor in this new two week camp experience! We'll focus on the building blocks of acting and put them all to use to cast, rehearse, and perform that high school favorite, Almost Maine, by John Cariani.
9th - 12th grade students are welcome to join the cast of Almost, Maine. No audition, no prior experience needed- we'll teach you everything you need to know to be stage ready! Reserve quickly, space is limited!
Families and friends of campers are welcome to attend the final presentation on Friday the 11th at 5:00pm!
ABOUT THE PLAY
In the town of Almost, Maine, people experience the life-altering power of the human heart. In a series of playful and surreal experiences, relationships end, begin, or change beyond recognition, as strangers become friends, friends become lovers, and lovers turn into strangers.
About Our Summer Camps
Summer Theatre Camp 2020
FABULOUS FACILITIES:
Camp is housed in the historic Wells Theatre and The Governor’s School for The Arts Black Box Theater.
FUN ACTIVITIES:
Summer Theatre Camp will provide a diverse range of engaging activities to enrich your child's summer experience! Our Summer Theatre Camp offers more than just a place to spend summer days. It is a place for your child to learn and grow.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
It is important that students are here every day of class and arrive on time. If a child needs to miss a day of camp or will be late, please let Virginia Stage Company know in advance with as much notice as possible. If a child misses a day of camp, tuition will not be prorated.
WHAT TO BRING:
Campers will need to pack a snack/lunch and drink for each day of camp. No microwave will be accessible. Please also include any utensils your child may need. We encourage students to bring a water bottle. During camp, scripts will be distributed to campers as the play is being developed. Students will be expected to return each day with their scripts.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Campers should dress comfortably, but please NO FLIP-FLOPS. Please be aware that our students move a lot and sit on the floor for some parts of their classes and workshops.
FINAL DAY:
On the last day, campers will share their production with family and friends. The 30-minute performance will be on the final Friday of each camp in the Wells Theatre or the GSA Black Box. Times vary per camp, so please make sure to check each session for the correct presentation time.
