A Holiday in Rep - What Does That Mean?

What Does ‘In Rep’ Mean?

Rep, short for repertory, means that one company of actors performs multiple plays in the same period of time, allowing multiple productions to be performed in the same week. Often sets and other production elements will be shared between the productions.

We are celebrating the holidays in 2024 with two fantastic productions produced in rep - A Merry Little Christmas Carol and A Sherlock Carol - both written by Mark Shanahan. We are the first theatre in the country to put these two plays in Rep, and they are made for each other! Sherlock Carol takes place several years after the events in Christmas Carol, and in many ways is Christmas Carol Part 2. Tiny Tim has grown up, and Sherlock Holmes is coming out of retirement to investigate the murder of Ebenezer Scrooge! The two productions feature the same design team and several actors will appear in both plays. There are lots of fun connections between the two productions. While we encourage you to attend both shows, you do not need to see one to enjoy the other. Check the performance schedule to see when each production will be performed.

Both shows will take place on The Wells Theatre stage!
