DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION
Virginia Stage Company strives to be a leader in theatre education programming for children and adults in Hampton Roads, and the Director of Education will lead educational programming for all ages. Education programming at VSC is focused on five primary programs: VSC on Tour, Student Matinees, Summer Camps, master classes in schools, and (new in 2025) Professional Development for Educators. Maintaining positive relationships with a variety of partners is central to this position including community partners and venues, school districts, and funders of education programs.
TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
A key position of the Virginia Stage Company, the Technical Director (TD) directly manages the Scenic Department and coordinates with all Production departments. The TD leads the scene shop in a safe execution and implementation of scenery for the stage, ensuring the process is completed successfully, and within the allotted time, budget, and scope. The TD is responsible for stewarding a workplace that is in alignment with Virginia Stage Company’s mission and values.
Sound Supervisor
The Sound Supervisor is primarily responsible for executing the installation, operation, and strike of sound and projection equipment for all VSC productions and special events. The Sound Supervisor is also the primary console operator for all performances.
Lighting Supervisor
The Lighting Supervisor is primarily responsible for the execution of budgeting, engineering, and implementation of lighting designs for each of Virginia Stage Company’s productions and special events. Maintenance, repair, and organization of the lighting equipment for both VSC productions and venue rentals are another key responsibility.
CARPENTER
The carpenter is primarily responsible for assisting the scenic department in the construction, install, and strike of all Virginia Stage Company productions and special events. Some night and weekend hours may be necessary.
Electrician
The Electrician is primarily responsible for assisting the Lighting Supervisor in the hang, focus, and strike of Virginia Stage Company’s seasonal productions and special events. The Electrician is the primary lighting console programmer and operator for each mainstage production. Night and weekend availability is essential.
Properties Manager
The Properties Manager is responsible for creating and sourcing props, set dressing, and other related elements for all VSC productions and special events, with the guidance of directors, designers, and stage management. The Properties Manager regularly collaborates with the Technical Director (TD), Costume Shop Manager, and other departments, to help create elements as needed. The Properties Manager reports to the Production Manager. This position intermittently supervises Overhire and Volunteer staff.

Virginia Stage Associates
Volunteers are vital to Virginia Stage Company, and as a member of Virginia Stage Associates, you become an important part of an organization dedicated to giving the gift of live, professional theater to Hampton Roads. For a small annual membership fee (discounts available for students, groups, families, and the military), the Virginia Stage Associates provide volunteer support to Virginia Stage Company in many ways, while receiving benefits in exchange for their help.
