Meet the Creative Team of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

BILLY BUSTAMANTE (Director)- Billy Bustamante is a New York-based director, choreographer and photographer. His work in theatre includes, as director / choreographer, Here We Are at The National Theatre and The Shed; FINN for the Kennedy Center; Soft Power for Signature Theatre (Helen Hayes nomination); Notes from Now for Prospect Theatre Company; Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for Virginia Stage Company; Whisper House for The Civilians; Gold Mountain for Utah Shakespeare Festival; The Wild Party and The Adding Machine for B-Side; and Here Lies Love on Broadway; and as actor, The King and I at Lincoln Center; The Last Goodbye at the Old Globe; Tulipomania for Arden; Cabaret for Arena Stage; Pacific Overtures for North Shore Music Theatre;Sweet Charity for Media Theatre; and Miss Saigon on Broadway. HANNAH BALAGOT (Associate Director) is a NYC based actor and teaching Artist. She is excited to be performing at Virginia Stage for the first time. She grew up dancing in the SF Bay Area and found musical theater through a love of West Side Story. After to moving to NYC, she soon left it to tour internationally with West Side Story as Anybodys. Other Regional Credits: Hello, Dolly!, The Wizard of Oz, and the world premiere of Summer Stock based on the Gene Kelly and Judy Garland movie. She loves collaborating on new works and most recently worked with Billy on Larry the Musical. When not performing, she is the resident choreographer and educator for young artists through Skyline Arts Jersey City. Many thanks to Billy for inspiring our collective creative genius and lots of love to my family and husband for encouraging my journey.


JOSAFATH REYNOSO
(Scenic Designer) Josafath Reynoso is an award-winning scenic designer, creative director, and researcher whose career spans over twenty-five years and four continents. Born in Mexico and based in the United States, his designs are celebrated for their emotional precision, inventive composition, and cross-cultural resonance.
He has created acclaimed productions for Abingdon Theatre Company, American Players Theatre, South Coast Repertory, PCPA, The Phoenix Theatre Company, and Duke University, as well as the Mexican premiere of Something Rotten! for ITESM.
A multi-award-winning designer, Reynoso’s honors include the 2023 Robert L. Tobin Opera Director-Designer Prize (OPERA America), the World Stage Design 2017 Gold Medal, and the USITT Scenic Design Award.
He is the founder and Chief Editor of SKENE.pub, an international digital magazine and research platform dedicated to theatre, opera, and performance design. Within its first year, SKENE has reached readers in over sixty-nine countries and established partnerships with OISTAT, USITT, and Red EscΓ©nica Migrante. Reynoso heads the Scenic Design Graduate Program at UT Austin.


JUNO ADAIR
(Assistant Scenic Designer) Juno Adair is excited to be working with the Virginia Stage company on this production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Previous work includes Assistant Scenic Designer for Cabaret (University of Texas Theater and Dance), A Tale for Home (University of Texas New Theater 2026) and Vulturine (University of Texas New Theater 2026), Automation Operator for Mary Poppins (Summer Stock Austin) and Le Nozze di Figaro (Butler School of Music), and Assistant Technical Director for UT New Theatre 2025 (UTTD). He is a B.A. in Theatre and Dance major with an emphasis in design and technology at The University of Texas at Austin and also works at Texas Performing Arts as a Fabrication Assistant.

JENI SCHAEFER (Costume Designer) Jeni Schaefer is the Director of Design and Resident Costume Designer at the Virginia Stage Company in her 24th season. Regional credits include: The 39 Steps at the Westport Country Playhouse and White Heron Theatre, A Christmas Story at Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Hound of the Baskervilles at The Hangar, Theatre Squared and White Heron Theatre, Always...Patsy Cline PCPA Theatrefest, World premiere of Tom Jones for Florida Studio Theatre, Wit for Playmakers Repertory Theatre.
Favorite VSC productions include; Wait until Dark, Emma, Little Shop of Horrors, Sherlock Carol, Arsenic and Old Lace, Three Musketeers, Dial M for Murder, Merry Christmas Carol, Henry V, The 39 Steps, The Hobbit, Every Brilliant Thing, Sense and Sensibility, Guys and Dolls, Matilda, Fun Home, Always Patsy Cline, Crowns, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Pride and Prejudice and The Wiz.
Jeni would like to dedicate this Design to Meg Murray her Costume partner here at VSC for 11 years. Meg makes my dreams come true every season but Joseph has been our dream for years. Thank you for your magical hands that brought my Dreamcoat dreams to life. So much love in every stitch.


COLLEEN DOHERTY
(Lighting Designer) Colleen Doherty is a Filipino-American Lighting Designer based in New York City. Recent design credits include Violet (Manhattan School of Music), The Twelfth Night Show (Weston Theatre Company), Machinal (New York Theatre Company), Ghost of John McCain (Soho Playhouse). Associate/Assistant Design credits include Marcel On The Train (Classic Stage Company), Bat Boy (New York City Center Encores!), Billie Jean (Chicago Shakespeare Theatre), Heathers (New World Stages), Death Becomes Her (Broadway), and The Great Gatsby (Broadway). STEVEN ALLEGRETTO
(Sound Designer) Steven Allegretto is a sound designer dedicated to creating immersive sonic environments for live theatre. A graduate of Full Sail University’s Recording Arts program, he has collaborated on numerous productions throughout the Hampton Roads theatre community. His previous sound design work with Virginia Stage Company includes Fiddler on the Roof, A Merry Little Christmas Carol, and Every Brilliant Thing. Steven is grateful to return to Virginia Stage Company and is excited to help bring the vibrant world of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to life.

CALVIN HITCHCOCK (Music Director) Calvin Hitchcock is a composer, performer, and music director based in Jersey City, NJ. He is thrilled to return to VSC as Music Director for this special production of Joseph…Dreamcoat, after his VSC debut with Little Shop of Horrors in Spring 2025. Calvin is most at home at the intersection of music and theatre, working equally as a creator, interpreter, and collaborator. His original music has been described as β€œimpressive” and having β€œa fine ear for sonority” (Pittsburgh Tribune Review), and has received awards from the Kennedy Center and The American Prize. In addition to his original work, he frequently music directs for theatre and live entertainment, and also arranges and produces shows for theme parks.
