Come From Away Takes Flight at the Military Aviation Museum

What better place to get a first listen to Come From Away than surrounded by aviation history?

On Friday, August 14, Virginia Stage Company heads to the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach for a special afternoon of live music, theatre, and aviation inspired by the remarkable true story at the heart of Come From Away.

Members of the cast will perform two songs from the show, offering a rare chance to hear the music live before the production opens at the Wells Theatre in September.

Director Tom Quaintance will share more about bringing Come From Away to the stage, while Military Aviation Museum docent “Quick Draw,” a former military and commercial pilot, will offer stories and insights from a life spent in aviation.

It’s an especially fitting setting for a musical that begins in the skies.

On September 11, 2001, the closure of U.S. airspace forced 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers to land unexpectedly in Gander, Newfoundland. What followed was an extraordinary true story of strangers welcoming strangers during a moment of uncertainty.

Nearly 25 years later, Come From Away remains a powerful reminder of generosity, connection, and what ordinary people can do for one another.
