Before the show arrives at the Wells, take a look at this video created by City Theatre featuring the two actors at the center of Malcolm X and Redd Foxx Washing Dishes at Jimmy’s Chicken Shack in Harlem. They talk about the story, the dynamic between these two legendary figures, and what it’s like bringing a brand-new play to life.
This production is part of a rolling world premiere, which means the play is developing in real time as it travels from theatre to theatre. The journey began at TheatreSquared in Arkansas, continued in Pittsburgh at City Theatre, and will soon arrive at Virginia Stage Company.
Each stop adds something new. Artists refine moments, audiences react, and the play continues to grow along the way.
