Over the course of just three days, the Wells Theatre faced two major floods and an extraordinary response from our staff, artists, volunteers, first responders, City partners, and community. Here’s how the events unfolded and how so many people came together to protect the Wells.

Saturday’s Events Canceled
Due to the severe rainstorm that moved through Norfolk on Thursday, August 20, the Wells Theatre experienced water coming into the building and onto the stage.
Our team will need the next few days to clean up and make sure the theatre is safe and ready to welcome audiences. As a result, Virginia Stage Company has made the difficult decision to cancel Curtain Up: Community Day at the Wells, scheduled for Saturday, August 22.

FREE SHOW: Every Brilliant Thing at the portsmouth library
Every Brilliant Thing is a story told from the perspective of a single performer. An immersive storytelling experience performed in the round that blends comedy, improv, and audience interaction to tell the story of someone growing up in the shadow of their mother's struggle with suicidal depression while learning to grapple with their journey. Surprisingly charming and delightful, Every Brilliant Thing provides a life-affirming jolt of humanism, reminding us that hope comes from the miracles of life.
